‘Not right and not fair’ – Leaseholders charged for CCTV service nowhere near where they live.
The Independent Residents Association Beam Park Team were asked to step in and help some local residents faced with these unfair services charges.
Leaseholders and some tenants living on Cherry Tree Lane are being charged for a CCTV service and wardens on the Cherry Tree estate, except they don’t live on or anywhere near the estate. Residents are rightly angry and unhappy with the additional charges and reached out to prospective councillors for help.
Prospective Councillors Ross Elliott and Daniel Beal met some of the charged residents, who explained their annoyance at being asked to pay for services they never receive. They also asked South Hornchurch Councillor Graham Williamson to attend their meeting to see if he can help get these unfair charges removed.

One leaseholder, Carol, told the Havering Daily: “We don’t receive any coverage from CCTV nor are we ‘protected’ by community wardens. We have even been charged by the Council for repairs on the estate over 200 yards away! Being charged for these services is not right and not fair.”
Councillor Williamson told the Havering Daily: “The paperwork highlights yearly estate charges that frankly are nothing to do with residents living in houses and maisonettes somewhere else. It makes me wonder how many other tenants throughout Havering are being similarly charged?”
He finished by adding: ”I guess an officer(s) thought it was a good idea to lump together nearby properties together without proper consideration. Regardless of the actual amounts, it is simply unjustifiable. We shall have to see what the Council say”.
