An 88 year old lady who sadly died in a house fire last week in Harold Wood, has now been named by the police as Mrs Josephine Smith.
Mrs Smith was a very much loved member of the community who most people in Harold Wood knew.
A fire is believed to have broken out at the ground floor flat at a property on Queen’s Park Road. Mrs Smith who was in the flat above, was rescued by firefighters who entered the property with breathing equipment but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A Met Police spokesperson said:
“Police were called by the London Fire Brigade at 22:17hrs on Thursday, 28 October to a fire at a residential address on Queens Park Road in Romford.
Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service.
Mrs Smith was found inside the address and pronounced dead at the scene.
Her next of kin has been informed.
A post-mortem examination on Sunday, 31 October gave the cause of her death as smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
