Freedom Day-‘The PM has asked us all to use our common sense now that he has washed his hands of any responsibility.’

Head of Romford Labour Angelina Leatherbarrow today shares her views on Freedom Day.

When I got on the train yesterday morning I was relieved to see that most of my fellow commuters were continuing to wear their masks despite it being “Freedom Day”. The PM has asked us all to use our common sense now that he has washed his hands of any responsibility for the public health of the nation. Its now a matter of personal choice if you decide to risk passing a deadly virus on to people who happen to be sharing a train carriage or a supermarket queue with you. If his reckless gamble pays off and cases of the Johnson variant don’t sky rocket he can claim credit and say he knew what he was doing all along. But, if in a few weeks, we are back at crisis point ( which many scientists and medical experts believe will be the case- but who needs experts eh?) he can blame us for not acting cautiously enough, we didn’t use our common sense and we brought this on ourselves.

The inconvenient truth for Johnson is that cases are already doubling in some parts of the country, hospital admissions are increasing – particularly amongst younger people, as are daily death figures. But Boris has grown bored of managing the situation, he has u- turned and done the hokey cokey with his responses to the pandemic. he watches what way popular opinion is going, then jumps in front and shouts “follow me” but now when public opinion is divided and people are confused about what restrictions are in place, so he has reverted to type, but instead of hiding in a fridge, he’s run off to Chequers. He has lied and bluffed his way through this crisis, even today he tried to get out of isolating despite being in contact with the Health Secretary who tested positive, but when faced with a huge outcry from normal people who have lost pay and missed loved ones because they have self isolated after being pinged by the test and trace app he suddenly changed the story and said that he would self isolate – just as soon as he arrives at his summer mansion!

Yet another example of the Conservatives’ response to this pandemic being to try to fix the rules to benefit themselves, and only backtracking when they are found out.

Its pitiful really, but a party created by trade unions to advance the interests of working people has abandoned solidarity in favour of fear thy neighbour, leaving the role of opposition to the prolonged communist restrictions to a small but growing group of patriotic conservative MPs.
