For several years residents in Rainham and south Hornchurch have suffered noise nuisance from late night gatherings at weekends from boy racers attempting stunts on roundabouts in the Ferry Lane and Coldharbour Lane area.
London Riverside Business Improvement District officials and Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham have been urging Police and Havering Council to take action to crack down on these illegal gatherings that cause nuisance to local people, leave piles of litter and cause real risk of serious accidents.
Police have mounted several raids that bring temporary relief but the boy racers then return after a few weeks have passed.
Jon Cruddas commented “I have been calling for the Council to put in place physical measures in the roads at this location for some time to prevent them from carrying out their stunts. I am pleased to hear that Havering Council are planning to put down an anti skid surface on a roundabout this month. The idea is that this will remove the attraction for them. I have asked local residents who I am in regular contact with on this nuisance to let me know if it works”.
