The local mental health charity: Havering Mind will again hold the Half Marathon event in Havering later this year. Taking place on Sunday 12th September 2021, the race starts and finishes in Abbs Cross Sports centre, Hornchurch and takes in some of the beautiful scenery of local parks including Hornchurch country park and the Ingrebourne Valley.
After last year’s virtual event, we are really looking forward, as I’m sure the running community is, to returning to a live event!
The coronavirus pandemic has been incredibly tough for everyone and has had a huge impact on our mental health. Money raised through entries will help Havering Mind to support local people cope with the thoughts, feelings, and issues they are facing.
Our events coordinator Ciaran says ‘We were so thrilled with the response that we got for the 2019 event with 1500 entries! We want to build on the success of thisand make it once again a great feel good event, whichthe whole community can get behind and support. The run is an ideal way to not only raise important funds for charity but to show how physical activity can have a positive impact on a person’s mental health and wellbeing’.
The entries for the event have been increased to 2500 people, making it by far the biggest sporting event ever to take place in the borough!
We are encouraging local residents to come out and cheer on the runners!
The event is supported by a number of local organisations including Everyone Active who are kindly providing the use of their Abbs Cross Sports centre facilities and helping out on the day with the water stations.
