Safety of children comes first and parents not to be fined if they choose to keep their child at home-Councillor Damian White.
The Government guidelines has allowed schools to gradually reopen as of June 1st. Here in Havering our Council leader, Councillor Damian White has allowed headteachers to make their own decisions whether to open the school or not and has said that parents will not be fined if they choose to not send their children to school, as the safety of their child comes first.
Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, told the Havering Daily:
“The government has issued guidelines to help schools in Havering to make a gradual return June 1st.
“Our schools are currently planning to accept reception and years 1 and 6 if they can meet the criteria that has been set out for a safe return. However, the decision on whether a school reopens should be taken by the headteacher after a risk assessment has been carried out. They are the professionals and we must stand by their judgment.
“Our first priority must be the safety and wellbeing of our children and staff, so we have advised parents that they will not be fined if they choose to keep their children at home.”
Damian has no authority concerning the reopening of Havering’s schools it’s a matter entirely for the governors or the management committees of Academy Trusts
