Joshua’s recipe of the day-steamed buns.
Our star junior chef nine-year-old Joshua Puncheon from Harold Wood, today shows us how to make delicious steamed buns.
Mantou – Steamed Buns
Ingredients
200gr flour
120ml milk
15gr Sugar
2 tsp instant yeast
10ml vegetable oil
Water to steam
Step 1

In a large pan on medium heat, add the milk.
Step 2

Add the sugar.
Step 3

Add the yeast.
Step 4

Mix until the yeast is melted.
Step 5

Switch the heat off and add the flour.
Step 6

Add in the oil and mix into a soft dough.
Step 7

When it is soft and elastic, transfer into a oiled bowl and leave to rise.
Step 8

Once it has doubled in size it is ready to be rolled.
Step 9

On a surface sprinkled with flour, roll the dough into a square.
Step 10

Stretch it gently.
Step 11

Roll it.
Step 12

Cut into 12 pieces.
Step 13

Place into a bamboo steamer, lined with baking paper or any other steaming devices you own.
Step 14.

Leave some space between them, do them in batches if easier.
Step 15

Place on a pot with water and let it steam for about 20 minutes.
Step 16

Be careful when opening the basket as the steam is hot.
