Keelan’s rainbow, for his NHS worker parents, wins national newspaper competition and will be displayed in homes across the country
There is a very proud dad among the staff at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust after his son Keelan, five, won a poster competition in the Daily Mirror.
Keelan’s dad, Daniel Madden, is a multi-disciplinary team coordinator in the Trust’s Urology team, based at King George Hospital, while his mum, Yvette, works for the London Ambulance Service.
Daniel, of High Street, Hornchurch, said: “Keelan’s nan saw the competition in the paper to design a rainbow poster for the NHS and said he should enter.
“He loves rainbows – it’s why he always wears bright colours, so he really enjoyed doing it. When we found out he’d won and his poster would be printed as a pull-out in the paper for people to put up we were amazed, and so proud!”
Keelan drew a big rainbow underneath the words, ‘after the storm comes a rainbow’ for his poster, his design was published in the national newspaper yesterday (Thursday 16 April).
Daniel, 42, added: “We found out the day before it was going to be published in the paper and when we told him he was over the moon.
“While he’s out of school and the normal routine we’re trying to keep his education going, and also make it fun for him, so something like this was really good for keeping him busy.”
