Kate O’Neill’s fantastic form continued as she placed third for Birmingham University in the BUCS Short Course 6km race at a muddy Holyrood Park, Edinburgh on Saturday. Her fine performance prevented Loughborough from a clean sweep of the top three, but they still won the team prize, ahead of Kate’s Birmingham team. Sam Atkins was 102nd for St Mary’s in the men’s 8km equivalent.

Richard Akinyebo won silver at this weekend’s South of England Championships for Under 20s and seniors at Lee Valley. Richard ran fast 200m times of 22.69s and 22.67s to qualify for the final where his PB of 22.49s saw him take silver. Also in action were Lewis Bailey in the senior 200m clocking 22.91s to qualify for the semi-finals, but did not start. In the senior 400m races Matthew Agnimel went out in the semi-finals after runs of 51.88s and 51.84s while Adam McCarthy was timed at 53.77s in his heat.

Back to normal next week as this weekend sees the two-day Essex & Eastern Indoor Championships at Lee Valley with a good turn out of club athletes going for gold
