In an interview with the Havering Daily, Havering’s Leader of the Council, Councillor Damian White has spoken about saving our village green’s and how he is reviewing the parking charges,
Councillor White told the Havering Daily: “The council has to follow the correct legal process in making these into village greens status. We withdrew all planning applications and have ensured that these sites are going to be protected. We have extended protection to them and we are, via our local plan following the correct procedure in making these village greens.
“I have ensured that whilst I am the leader of the council these greens will not be built on.“
The increase in parking charges and the removal of the free 30 minutes has been the cause of much debate across the borough and Councillor White spoke openly about the increase and how the council is reviewing it.
“We held a review of our parking charges and the only way we would be able to change this is to ensure that we have extra funding.
“Last night the opposition had a wish list but they equally had no way of funding it. I have spoken with numerous local businesses in the area and am aware of the ongoing issues.
“We are looking to bring forward some amendments and thanks to our local MP Andrew Rosindell we have managed to secure some extra funding for next year.
“Thanks to our Prime Minister Boris Johnson and our MP who has spoken with numerous ministers to help us secure more local Government funding, Havering Council will receive and extra funding boost.
“Next year we will be spending between £4/5 million on Social Services and with the extra funding, it will give us the scope to look at our parking charges.
“We are the fifth most efficient run council and have been for two years in a row. We have made a significant saving programme and with the additional funding we will be able to review our parking changes.”
