Santa’s sleigh will still ride this Christmas as one of his reindeers was rescued by firefighters after she got caught in a wash line.

The reindeer got a bit lost on its way back to Lapland and got tangled up in washing lines near a block of flats on Kings Lynn Drive in Harold Hill.

Station Commander Martin Knight, who was at the scene, said:

“The reindeer got her antlers caught around the washing line wire and was in distress. Three vets arrived and managed to calm the animal down before a firefighter used cutters to free the reindeer. Thankfully she was uninjured and ran off to safety. Fantastic work from all involved meant that it was a happy Christmas story and the reindeer will be free to fly Santa’s sleigh.”

The Brigade was called at 1010 and the incident was over by 1147. Fire crews from Harold Hill and Bexley fire stations attended the scene.
