Harold Hill lights switch on definitely Havering’s finest.

Save the best til last! The Harold Hill lights switch on was definitely Havering’s finest. With hundreds of spectators turning out to join in the festive spirit.

Hilldene was the place to be last night with festivities and the Christmas spirit to be felt right across the shops and local streets.

Lots of stalls were set up, a Christmas stage and even the man himself Father Christmas arrived in the library to put a huge smile on children’s faces.

The lights were switched on by Pippa’s Army, the animal rescue charity who do an amazing job across the borough saving animals and reuniting lost pets with their owners and Havering’s Mayor Councillor Michael Deon Burton.

Event organiser Councillor Jan Sargent told the Havering Daily:

“Well done Harold Hill, once again a great Christmas light Switch on Event.

“Seeing all those smiley faces made all the hard work and effort worth while.

“Thank you to our entertainment hosts:

“We paid an emotional tribute to Martin Keynon who was a vital part of our team who we sadly lost this year due to cancer. There isn’t a day that goes past where I dont miss him. He was so much help to me and the community

“We have so many generous, lovely people in our community. I feel very proud to be a part of it and after all we love Harold Hill.”

Event organiser Hazel Gibbons told the Havering Daily:

“Wow! What a night we had in Harold Hill. The Christmas Switch On was a great success. Everyone had so much fun. Was great to see so many children smiling and enjoying themselves.

“We had an emotional moment saying a few words for Martin Kenyon who passed away recently. Martin was a huge part in last years event. Thank you to the mayor for staying and thinking of Martin with us.

“Thank you to all the volunteers and huge well done to all the performers.”
