Jon Cruddas, the Dagenham and Rainham MP has spoken exclusively to Havering Daily about why he chose to vote for Boris’ Brexit deal.

The people of Dagenham and Rainham voted to leave in 2016. At the last election I stood on a manifesto to respect the outcome of the referendum. As MP it is my duty to honour the commitment I was elected on and ensure the UK leaves the EU with a sensible deal. Last night in Parliament I voted to leave in order to represent the views of local people.

Jon Cruddas MP.

We have one last chance to find a compromise that can break the impasse. We now have a bit of time to get this right. Through the passage of the Withdrawal Agreement Bill in Parliament I will act to safeguard workers rights.

It is never easy to break a three-line whip in Parliament. However, I believe we must try to ensure a Brexit in the interests of working people. We must now move on, amend the Bill and make some real progress on Brexit.
