The appeal is for blankets measuring 36 inches by 48 inches, made in squares, for use by the Care for the Elderly team, Clinical and Cancer team, and the Emergency Department and Assessment Units.

Any colours are welcome, and supporters are free to use their own knitting or crochet patterns. Those who prefer can also use classic blanket styles such as granny squares or granny stripes.

The handmade blankets help provide comfort and warmth to patients during what can often be difficult and stressful times, particularly for elderly and cancer patients as well as those receiving urgent care.

Donors are asked to include their name and email address or home address inside the package so that Callum Oubridge and the Patient Experience Team can send a thank-you message.

When donating, supporters should clearly mark which department the blanket is intended for:

  • Care for the Elderly
  • Clinical and Cancer Team
  • Emergency Department and Assessment Units

Blankets can be dropped off in person at Queen’s Hospital, Rom Valley Way, Romford, RM7 0AG.

Visitors should report to the main reception desk on the ground floor opposite Costa Coffee and ask for Callum Oubridge or a member of the Patient Experience Team. Reception staff may also accept donations and arrange for internal delivery.

Those dropping off blankets and wishing to have a photo taken with the team are encouraged to mention this at the time of donation.

Donations can also be sent by post to:
