The Lions Club of Romford has been honoured with the Civic Pride Award, recognising a year of outstanding service, charitable initiatives, and deep community involvement across the borough. Accepting the award on behalf of the club were Brian Phillips (President), Aishwarya Kumar (Secretary), Colin Gilchrist (Treasurer), and Siva Kumar (Assistant Secretary), reflecting the collective commitment of the club’s volunteer members.

Impressive Fundraising Supporting Local Needs

Between July 2024 and June 2025, the club raised an exceptional amount of donations, all of which was directed toward organisations and services that play a vital role in supporting Romford residents. This achievement demonstrates the Lions’ ongoing dedication to strengthening community wellbeing.

Enhancing Community Safety, Heritage and Emergency Response

Throughout the year, the club made significant contributions across several key areas:

  • Public Safety – Funding and distributing Bleed Control Kits in partnership with the Liam Taylor Legacy.
  • Emergency Services – Continued support for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and RNLI Southend.
  • Preserving Heritage – Supporting St Edward the Confessor, safeguarding an important piece of Romford’s history and cultural identity.

Supporting the Next Generation

The Lions have also prioritised youth development by contributing to:

  • LFB Fire Cadets
  • Stubbers Outdoor Pursuits
  • Handicapped Children’s Action Group

These contributions ensure that children and young people have access to enriching opportunities that build confidence, resilience, and community pride.

Over 160 Christmas Gifts Donated to Local Children

One of the club’s most impactful initiatives has been the donation of more than 160 Christmas gifts to children at Drapers Trust schools over the past two years. This project, kindly initiated by Secretary Aishwarya Kumar, helped ensure that every child received a gift during the festive season, reinforcing the club’s commitment to supporting families facing hardship.

Quiet, Personal Acts of Service

In addition to the club’s collective projects, members also participate in personal community efforts. This includes the monthly preparation and serving of meals at St George’s Church, an activity carried out voluntarily by Aishwarya Kumar. Though a personal commitment rather than an official club initiative, it reflects the compassion and spirit of service shared across the Lions membership.

A Deserved Recognition of Service

The Civic Pride Award stands as a testament to the Lions Club of Romford’s dedication, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to serving the community. Through fundraising, volunteering, and grassroots support, the club continues to embody the true meaning of civic pride and remains a valuable pillar within Romford.
