Havering Council Awards Major Electrical Contract.
A major new programme of electrical works is now underway across Havering’s housing stock, as AJS begins a long term contract with Havering Council.
The deal is worth £5 million per year and will run for an initial nine years and five months, with the option to extend for a further five years. It builds on an existing partnership between the council and AJS, which has already been delivering electrical services to residents for more than nine years.
Under the new contract, AJS will continue carrying out electrical testing in both communal areas and individual homes across the borough. The programme will also expand to include the installation of solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, aiming to improve safety, efficiency and sustainability in council housing.
Councillor Paul McGeary, Cabinet Member for Housing Property, welcomed the move, saying the contract strengthens an already established partnership and will help ensure homes remain safe and well maintained. He added that the programme will support improvements across a wide range of properties and deliver long term benefits for residents.
The works will cover a variety of housing types, including hostels, high rise and low rise buildings, sheltered housing, assisted living schemes and general needs homes.
As part of the agreement, AJS will also contribute to wider community benefits through social value commitments, supporting local residents beyond the core electrical works.
The council says the programme marks a significant step forward in maintaining and upgrading homes across Havering, with work set to continue over the coming years.
