A specialist school in Harold Hill is calling on the local community to help raise funds for a much-needed new minibus.

Lime Academy Forest Approach supports children with additional needs, providing tailored education and helping pupils develop essential life skills, confidence and independence.

Staff at the school are working to raise funds for a new minibus, which they say will play a crucial role in expanding opportunities for pupils beyond the classroom. For many children, access to transport is not just about travel, but about gaining real-life experiences that support their development.

As part of the fundraising efforts, the school will be hosting a Forest Festival on Saturday 20 June from 12pm to 3pm. The event is set to bring the community together for an afternoon of activities, including stalls, crafts, music and refreshments.

The school is also inviting stall holders to take part in the event and is encouraging anyone interested to get in touch.

The importance of the minibus is reflected in the everyday learning experiences it would help support. Pupils regularly take part in practical activities such as visiting local shops, where they learn how to follow a shopping list, handle money and make purchases, before returning to school to prepare food using the items they have bought. These experiences are key milestones for children with additional needs and play a significant role in building independence.

Every donation and show of support will contribute towards making these opportunities more accessible for pupils.

Residents are encouraged to attend the event, support the fundraising efforts and help make a lasting difference to the children at the school.
