Havering Council is inviting residents to give their views on updated Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plans (CAAMPs) for three of the borough’s historic areas: Langtons, RAF Hornchurch, and Havering-atte-Bower.

Conservation Areas are designated for their special architectural or historic interest, helping to preserve the unique character of places valued by the community. Havering currently has 11 Conservation Areas, each supported by a CAAMP to guide development, ensure sympathetic changes, and protect heritage for the long term.

The existing CAAMPs for Langtons, RAF Hornchurch, and Havering-atte-Bower were adopted over a decade ago, in 2011 and 2012. The Council has now worked with heritage consultants Purcell to update the documents, making sure they reflect current policy, local character, and community priorities.

Residents and businesses can review the updated CAAMPs and share their feedback through an online survey, open until Wednesday 22 April.

The Council is also hosting public events where you can learn more, ask questions, and speak directly with planning officers and consultants. Each session includes a short presentation followed by discussion:

  • Langtons CAAMP: Monday 23 March, 11:00am–12:30pm
Langtons House, Billet Lane, Hornchurch, RM11 1XJ
  • RAF Hornchurch CAAMP: Monday 23 March, 2:00pm–3:30pm
Hornchurch Library, 44 North Street, Hornchurch, RM11 1TB
  • Havering-atte-Bower CAAMP: Wednesday 25 March, 1:30pm–3:00pm
Bedfords Park Nature Discovery Centre, Broxhill Road, Havering-atte-Bower, RM4 1QH

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, said:
“Our Conservation Areas are an important part of Havering’s heritage, and these updated plans will help protect their character for the future. We want residents to help shape that work by sharing their views. I encourage everyone who cares about these historic places to take part in the consultation and attend one of the events.”

If you want, I can also create 5 punchy, curiosity-driven clickbait headlines for this consultation story to boost engagement. Do you want me to do that?
