Council Snubs MP’s Request Over Longer Consultation Period For Huge Data Centre Proposals On Havering’s Greenbelt Land.
The Hornchurch and Upminster MP Julia Lopez met with residents concerned about the data centre at a public meeting and during site visits, and she has consistently pushed for greater transparency and engagement from Havering Council and the developer over the plans.
While the final decision rests with the Council, the Local Development Order process has limited the usual support councillors can provide to residents wanting to voice their opposition. Julia has stepped in as a vital conduit, ensuring the concerns of North Ockendon residents are heard.
She recently presented their request for an extended consultation period—an entirely reasonable demand given the scale of the proposed development not only to the Council Leader and Chief Executive but also to the Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, leaving no doubt about the strength of local feeling. Unfortunately, those requests were ignored at the Committee meeting on 3 March.
