Police in Havering have acted swiftly after concerns around the so called “Red vs Blue” social media trend reached local schools, prompting reassurance from officers and a strong warning about the risks of youth violence.

Reports linked to posts circulating on TikTok have raised concerns about potential violence involving young people in and around schools across parts of London. In response, local officers moved quickly to prevent any possible disorder and reassure families.

Metropolitan Police officers are now maintaining a visible presence around schools and monitoring both local activity and online content.

Havering Neighbourhoods Superintendent Sharon Brind has written to schools and parents outlining the police response and measures being taken to protect young people.

In her letter, she said:

“Dear Schools and Parents,

We are aware that several posts have been circulating on social media in recent days enticing serious youth violence in and around schools across some areas of London, and we understand that this may have caused concern among families.

We wish to reassure you that the Metropolitan Police are monitoring the situation closely and are in regular contact with schools across several London boroughs to offer reassurance and support.

Police officers will continue to maintain a strong and visible presence around schools, where appropriate. They will respond promptly and firmly to any intelligence, reports of violence or disorder to help ensure the safety of all young people.

The police are also monitoring online activity and have worked with social media platforms to request the disabling of several accounts where threats or encouragement of violence were identified.

Commander Neerav Patel lead for Neighbourhoods across London has reminded young people of the serious consequences of becoming involved in situations of this nature. Any involvement in violence or carrying weapons can lead to arrest, criminal charges or even imprisonment, with long term impacts on future opportunities.

We ask that you speak with children about staying safe, making responsible choices, and reporting anything that concerns them to a trusted adult.

If you have any questions or need further reassurance, please do not hesitate to contact the school, or my local police teams via met engage.

Yours faithfully,

Sharon Brind
Superintendent Neighbourhood Policing.”

Local police say they will continue working closely with schools and families to prevent any escalation and ensure the safety of pupils across the borough.
