A much loved local performer who has spent years bringing joy to shoppers in Romford Market is now the star of a heartfelt new documentary celebrating his extraordinary impact on the community.

The short film KELVIS tells the story of Kevin Elsbury, a familiar face in the London Borough of Havering, who has spent the past 15 years entertaining the public with lively performances inspired by Elvis Presley while raising money for Cancer Research UK.

Every weekend, Kevin can be found in Romford town centre, dressed head to toe in one of his Elvis costumes, pulling along his “boogie box” and performing for passersby. His mission is simple but powerful. To bring happiness to strangers while supporting a cause close to many hearts. So far, he has raised more than £4,500 for charity.

The documentary, created by a local filmmaker and friend Jacob and explores not only Kevin’s performances but also the man behind the character known affectionately as Kelvis. It looks at his passion for lifting people’s spirits and examines how he has become a positive and uplifting presence in a town that has undergone significant change in recent years.

The film captures the energy, warmth and generosity that have made Kevin a local hero, highlighting how one individual’s dedication can unite a community and put smiles on countless faces.

Already gaining attention online, the documentary has attracted thousands of viewers, with clips shared on social media reaching more than 300,000 views. The project has also been submitted to major events including the BFI London Short Film Festival and the Romford Film Festival this May.

For many residents, Kevin is more than just a performer. He is a symbol of kindness, community spirit and resilience. The film stands as a touching tribute to a man whose music, generosity and infectious positivity continue to brighten the lives of everyone who encounters him.
