Two Romford Conservative councillors have reaffirmed their loyalty to the Conservative Party, making clear their commitment to the residents who elected them and the principles they were chosen to represent.

Dilip and Nisha Patel have spoken to Havering Daily to confirm that they will remain Conservatives, emphasising their dedication to integrity, public service and accountability to their communities. Both councillors stressed that their decision reflects a deep respect for the trust placed in them by voters.

Dilip Patel, who serves as councillor for Mawney Ward, said his position is firmly rooted in the mandate he received from residents. “Following recent political developments, I wanted to personally reassure residents that I was elected in 2014 as a Conservative Councillor and I will continue to serve as a Conservative, standing again at the next election,” he said.

He stressed that his focus has always been on serving his community, explaining that “since being elected, my focus has always been on putting residents first -listening, helping, and doing my very best for our community.” He added that “my ethics, morals and integrity matter a great deal to me, and they guide every decision I make as your councillor.”

Highlighting his dedication to local residents, he described public service as a privilege, saying “serving the people of Mawney Ward has been a privilege, and I remain fully committed to continuing that service with the same energy, honesty and dedication.” He also expressed gratitude to residents, adding “thank you for your trust and continued support — it truly means a great deal.”

Nisha Patel also set out a strong and unequivocal position, confirming her continued commitment to Conservative representation. She said, “in light of recent political developments, I wish to clarify my position. I remain committed to representing Marshalls and Rise Park Ward as a Conservative candidate and councillor.”

She explained that her decision is based on principle and consistency, stating that “having been elected as a Conservative councillor in St Edwards Ward eight years ago under the Conservative banner, I believe it would be inconsistent with my principles and integrity to alter my party affiliation during the course of a municipal term.”

Emphasising the importance of honouring voters’ trust, she said “I was elected on this basis, and I consider it important to honour the trust placed in me by residents and by those who supported our campaign. To change party allegiance mid term would not reflect that mandate.”

She made clear that her focus remains firmly on the community, adding “my foremost priority continues to be serving the residents of Marshalls and Rise Park Ward diligently and conscientiously.”

At a time of political uncertainty, both councillors have presented a clear and confident message of loyalty to their party and their electorate. Their statements underline a shared commitment to integrity, public service and delivering for the residents who placed their trust in them.
