Romford Man Turns Near-Car-Theft Nightmare into App That Warns Your Neighbourhood About Crime.
Nathan, a Romford-based app developer, has transformed his own run-ins with would-be thieves into a tool for the wider community. After his car was targeted three times — including one morning when he discovered handprints all over his door handles in fresh snow — Nathan decided enough was enough.
The result? CrimeSiren, a free crime awareness app for England and Wales that delivers real-time, location-based alerts using verified police data.
“I built this because I kept seeing people share crime information on Facebook and WhatsApp, but it was often unverified or misleading,” Nathan explains. “I wanted something accurate, official, and easy to use.”
CrimeSiren lets users see reported crimes near their homes, track updates on local suspects, and receive alerts when certain types of crime, like vehicle theft or burglary, start rising in their area.
Nathan says the app is about turning a negative personal experience into a community benefit. “It’s made for Romford residents, by a Romford resident, and it really fills a gap in local crime awareness.”
The app is now live and free to download.
