‘Today Marks A New Era For Romford’-Nigel Farage Visits Havering.
“In 1965 London doubled in size and Havering found itself in Greater London, now it has found itself living under Mayor Khan, I would suggest to you that not a lot of people living in Romford are happy about that and clearly we need a debate here“-Nigel Farage MP.
Romford witnessed a significant political moment yesterday, as Andrew Rosindell, Member of Parliament for Romford, declared “today marks a new era for Romford” while standing alongside his party leader Nigel Farage during a visit to the town.

The visit followed the announcement that former Conservative councillors Christine Vickery and Robert Benham have defected to Reform UK, marking a shift in Havering’s local political landscape. The appearance came as Reform continues to position itself ahead of May’s local elections, with party representatives saying they are preparing a strong local presence.
Mr Farage’s visit also came shortly after developments surrounding his party’s legal challenge against the Government over the postponement of some local elections. Reform had launched a judicial review arguing that delaying elections undermined democratic accountability. The Government subsequently confirmed that several previously postponed local elections would go ahead as scheduled. Reform described the outcome as a victory for democratic process.
Speaking to residents in Romford, Mr Farage said:
“What price is freedom, what price is liberty. We have the biggest membership in the country and are capable and able to be ready for the local elections.”
Outside Havering Town Hall, defecting councillors and party representatives stood with placards alongside Mr Rosindell and Mr Farage, signalling the party’s growing presence in the borough.

Mr Farage added:
“Eighteen months ago I said we would replace the Conservative Party and here we are in Romford doing that. We have previously lacked experience and with people like Andrew, Keith and these local councillors we now have that experience. ” When asked how he would solve the growing debt and financial pressures across the borough, he said: “We cannot come overnight and cancel debt here in Havering. But what we can do is look at how to slim down and make the council more efficient.”
When asked whether Havering should leave the Greater London Authority, Mr Farage said:
“In 1965 London doubled in size and Havering found itself in Greater London, now it has found itself living under Mayor Khan, I would suggest to you that not a lot of people living in Romford are happy about that and clearly we need a debate here.”
Mr Farage later joined Mr Rosindell for an evening event at City Limits, meeting local supporters and party members.
