TfL Confirm Gallows Corner Will Re-Open End of April.
Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that the Gallows Corner flyover and roundabout will reopen to traffic by the end of April, ( this year) marking a major milestone in the extensive refurbishment project.
Built in the 1970s as a temporary structure, the ageing flyover has undergone significant strengthening to ensure it remains safe and reliable for Londoners for decades to come. TfL and contractor Costain have made huge strides, including constructing three new foundations, installing crash barriers, and putting in place all 13 sections of the new flyover.
In the coming weeks, final touches such as waterproofing, tarmac, lighting columns, street signs, and pedestrian crossings will be completed. TfL previously anticipated finishing the project by spring 2026, but the reopening has been brought forward thanks to the fast progress.
Stuart Harvey, TfL’s Chief Capital Officer, said:
“We’re very sorry for the disruption caused by this essential work at Gallows Corner. We’ve worked hard to minimise impact and thank local residents and commuters for their patience. This refurbishment ensures the flyover can serve the area safely for generations to come.”
Meanwhile, ESW has also advanced its work on local and strategic water mains, completing the majority of installations, including a tunnelling section under existing utilities and culverts. Remaining tasks include connecting the new pipes and retiring the old network.
The reopening of Gallows Corner marks a significant step in improving Havering’s road network and enhancing safety and reliability for east London drivers.
