Havering Council joined partners to celebrate the achievements of young people in the borough at a special awards ceremony held on Thursday 12 February.

As part of the success of the My Ends Partnership, the event took place at the City Pavilion on Collier Row Road, where the Council’s Community Safety team came together with young people, community partners and local supporters to recognise the achievements of those involved in the My Ends Partnership Romford initiative. Also in attendance were Councillor Barry Mugglestone, Havering’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Councillor Oscar Ford, Havering’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, and Councillor Sue Ospreay, Mayor of Havering.

The evening opened with a speech from Lib Peck, Director of the London Violence Reduction Unit, who praised the partnership’s commitment to creating safer and more positive opportunities for young people across the borough. Her message highlighted the importance of long term collaboration and community led initiatives in helping to reduce crime while supporting youth development.

Launched in 2024 and funded by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime through the London Violence Reduction Unit, the My Ends Partnership has delivered a wide range of free youth activities focused on helping to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in Romford Town Centre. The programme offers safe spaces where young residents can build confidence, learn new skills and strengthen their connections within the community.

The ceremony saw 15 young people honoured for their outstanding achievements. Alfie Bailey received the Outstanding Participation award. Brandon Kangave was recognised for Creativity and Participation. Calvin Adu-Poku was honoured for Community Care and Courage. Josh Hart received the Transformational Journey award. Tamara Walcott-Brown was named Best Under 25 Young Person’s Mentor. Hannah Slater received the Community Engagement award. Mason Jason Sweeney and Robert Alexander Marshall were both recognised for Exceptional Engagement. Sean Kerry and Rose Sullivan-McDaid received Rising Resilience awards. Theodore Archer and Kai Parkes-Mayes were recognised for Community Outreach and Confidence.

Honorary awards were also presented to Simeon Dennis, Carrie Kendall and Majida Burch for Best Young Person’s Mentor.

Each of the award winners received vouchers and gifts generously donated by programme supporters including Romford BID, NAMCO Funscape Romford and Prescott Thomas.

Councillor Barry Mugglestone, Cabinet Member for Environment and Deputy Mayor of Havering, said the My Ends Partnership continues to demonstrate the power of people working together to support young people across the borough and give them the opportunity to have a voice and play an active role in their community. He added that the programme helps young people build confidence, learn skills that could support their future careers and become more involved in the communities where they live, study and work. He said the Council is incredibly proud of the achievements of all participants and grateful to partners and sponsors who make the work possible.

Guests also enjoyed a dinner and were treated to an acoustic performance by a young local musician, showcasing creativity and talent nurtured through the partnership’s activities. The event concluded with a closing speech from the Mayor of Havering, Councillor Sue Ospreay, who congratulated all the award winners and thanked partners for their dedication.

Alongside support from the Council’s community safety teams and external emergency services including the police, creative and sports based programmes are delivered by partners such as Youth Unity, Box Up Crime, AIR Network, Third Space Youth, Kaleidoscope and YouThrive. The Council thanked organisations, youth workers, volunteers and community members who have contributed to the programme’s success.
