A Romford man has been charged following two separate dog-related incidents in Havering, including an attack in Raphael Park where a two-year-old girl was injured.

Officers investigating the incident in Raphael Park, Romford, on Monday 2 February have confirmed that a 63-year-old man from Romford has been charged with offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

The man was arrested on Saturday 14 February in connection with the Raphael Park incident and a previous incident that occurred in September 2024 in Bedfords Park, which left a man with minor injuries.

He has been charged with three offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 relating to both incidents and is due to appear before Barkingside Magistrates’ Court next month.

The dogs involved in the incidents were seized earlier this month by the Metropolitan Police Service.

Acting Chief Inspector Charlie Routley, of Havering Safer Neighbourhoods, said:
“This has been a thorough investigation into two serious incidents in our community. Allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control is a criminal offence.

My thoughts remain with the young victim and her family, and I wish her a continued and full recovery. I would also like to thank the members of the public who came forward and contacted us with information. Your support and cooperation have been invaluable in progressing this investigation.”

The Metropolitan Police Service has reminded all dog owners of their legal responsibilities under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. Owners must ensure their dogs are kept under control at all times in public and private places, with failure to do so potentially resulting in serious criminal consequences.

The investigation remains ongoing.
