Town Hall Hosts Havering’s First Cohesion Summit to Strengthen Community Links
Havering’s Inter Faith Forum hosted the borough’s first Cohesion Summit at Havering Town Hall on Tuesday night, bringing together community leaders, organisations and residents to strengthen unity across the borough.
The event was supported by Havering’s HRA Administration and the Council, with the Leader of the Council chairing the meeting.
Speakers included the Inter Faith Forum, Havering Volunteer Centre, the Police, a representative on behalf of a number of different children and youth groups, and a local law firm speaking about unconscious bias.
Attendees shared a selection of food from different cultures during informal eat and talk sessions held before the meeting and again at the interval, helping to encourage open conversation and connection.
Representatives present included the DWP, armed forces, faith groups, Councillors, Havering Housing, Havering’s Children’s Services, Havering’s Community Safety, Police, Havering Volunteer Centre, Kaleidoscope and volunteers.
There was consensus within the room that Havering has many positive strengths and that by working collaboratively, more residents can be supported to feel part of the community.
Leader of the Council Ray Morgan said “It was a pleasure to welcome so many people into the Town Hall to speak with such positivity about working collaboratively. Havering has so much to offer yet the focus is always on negativity. This was the first of what we hope, will be many more summits”.
