Havering South Safer Neighbourhood Teams have carried out a high-visibility policing operation in Hornchurch as part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime and reassure residents.

The operation, led by Sergeant George and supported by officers from across the area, took place on Billet Lane last week. Officers stopped vehicles and individuals in a coordinated enforcement and intelligence-led crackdown.

In total, 48 vehicles were stopped, with several occupants dealt with for traffic-related offences. Officers also carried out multiple stop and searches where legal grounds were established.

Sergeant George told the Havering Daily:

“The communities of Hornchurch and Upminster continue to express the importance of visible policing, supported by modern tools such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). This operation demonstrates how local teams are using proactive, intelligence-led tactics to identify offenders and provide reassurance to residents.”

Inspector Connolly told the Havering Daily:

“This is just one of many initiatives planned for 2026, with further operations scheduled throughout the year to address local priorities and respond to community concerns.”

Police say further high-visibility operations are planned across the borough as teams continue to focus on road safety, crime prevention, and community reassurance.

Residents who want to stay informed about local policing activity, crime prevention advice, and ward-specific updates are encouraged to sign up to Met Engage at www.metengage.co.uk and contact their dedicated Safer Neighbourhood Team.
