Late Goals Prove Romford’s Undoing
Romford 2, Woodford Town 4
With 89 minutes played, it looked as though Romford — who had recovered from a one-goal deficit to lead at one stage — would collect a valuable point, only for Woodford Town to score twice late on and leave Mayesbrook Park with all three points.
Ryan Hervel shot over for Woodford after six minutes, but Boro then created three good chances. First, Flynn Hamilton found Sonny Dutton, whose volley struck the outside of the post after seven minutes. Another Hamilton pass then put Dutton through again, but he was denied by Woodford goalkeeper Jake Boxer, before a further move between the pair ended with Dutton shooting wide.
Hervel fired over the bar again for the visitors, before Christian Adu Gyamfi was denied by Boxer. Woodford took the lead after 30 minutes when Yemi Adelani weaved his way through and beat Brad Davison with a low shot. The visitors almost doubled their advantage shortly afterwards but struck the post.

Five minutes before the interval, Romford went close once more. Adu Gyamfi did well to evade challenges in the box after being found by Hamilton, but after doing the hard work, fired over the bar.
The sides exchanged chances early in the second half. Adu Gyamfi headed Ryan Sammons’ cross over the bar, Woodford’s Kye Scott shot high, and Lewis Browne also fired over for Boro.

Romford were rewarded after 62 minutes when Flynn Hamilton latched on to Adu Gyamfi’s pass and lifted an excellent 25-yard effort over Boxer and into the net.
Adu Gyamfi then met Teddy Desmond’s cross but could only direct his effort into Boxer’s hands. Hamilton saw another shot saved before Dutton headed over after Adu Gyamfi had knocked Hamilton’s corner across goal.

Boro took the lead after 74 minutes when Sonny Dutton ran on to Brad Davison’s long ball forward and struck a low shot across Boxer and into the corner.
However, the lead lasted just two minutes as Woodford equalised through Ollie Sotoyinbo, who chased and converted a through ball.

Dutton again broke through but shot wide, while substitute Dhillon Sandhu-Nelson fired across the face of goal as Romford pressed for a winner. With 89 minutes played, the match was still finely balanced.
Unfortunately for Boro, it proved to be Woodford’s day. Marko Protic fired home an angled effort to put the visitors ahead, before Denzel Effah’s free-kick went in off the bar in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Defeat was harsh on Romford, who deserved at least a point ahead of next Saturday’s visit of Great Wakering Rovers in what will be another tough test.
