Bike and motorcycle theft is continuing to rise across Havering, and police are urging riders to take action now before it’s too late. Havering officers are stepping up efforts to target thieves and protect the community, but riders themselves also need to play their part.

South Havering Inspector Mark Connolly told the Havering Daily:

“Bike and motorcycle theft continues to be a challenge across London, and we are urging all riders to take simple but effective steps to protect their property. One way to do this is by investing in high‑quality security, and Hiplok remains one of the leading manufacturers of anti–angle‑grinder, Secure by Design approved products. Their innovative technology has been recognised across the cycling and motorcycling community, with products such as the MD1000 series offering exceptional resistance to power‑tool attacks.

Hiplok’s extensive approach to bike and motorcycle protection—ranging from wearable locks to compact grinder‑proof disc locks—has helped set industry standards for secure design and durability. As theft methods evolve, so must the measures owners take.”

Officers are urging all pedal-cycle and motorcycle owners to follow these crucial steps to avoid becoming a victim:

Use high-quality locks rated by Sold Secure or Secure by Design, ideally angle‑grinder‑resistant options. The MD1000 disc lock from Hiplok is specifically designed to withstand grinder attacks while remaining practical for daily use.

Always lock bikes and motorcycles to immovable objects, securing both the frame and wheels where possible.

Park in busy, well-lit areas covered by CCTV whenever you can.

Store bikes and motorcycles securely at home, using ground anchors or multiple layers of protection.

Stay connected with local policing by signing up to Met Engage at www.metengage.co.uk. Residents who register their home address and contact details can receive regular updates, crime prevention advice, and local alerts.

The Havering Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be hosting crime prevention stalls across the borough throughout 2026. These events will showcase a range of approved security products, including Hiplok’s grinder-resistant locks, so residents can see options for themselves and make informed choices.

Police continue to crack down on theft while educating riders on the simple steps that can prevent criminals from targeting their property. With theft methods becoming more sophisticated, staying one step ahead could save thousands of pounds in stolen bikes and motorcycles.

Safety measures.
