Labour Action Team Pushes for 20mph Limit After Traffic Sign Repairs in Rainham
Rainham and Wennington Labour Action Team have been actively working with residents along Wennington Road since November and pressured the council to reinstate the badly damaged traffic calming signage along Wennington Road near East Hall Lane.
While these repairs have now been completed, numerous conversations with residents have highlighted the ongoing issues with speeding vehicles and the wider impact on safety across Rainham. Local people consistently tell us they feel road safety concerns are not being addressed quickly enough, with long delays before even basic repairs or preventative measures are actioned.
Sue said:
“Across Rainham, road safety concerns are being overlooked. A single repair does not solve the ongoing speeding problems residents face daily. We need real, long term solutions — not piecemeal fixes — and we’ll keep pushing until the Council delivers the meaningful action our community urgently needs.”
Fay commented:
“It’s good to see this repair finally completed, but this is just one step. Residents have been raising these issues for some time, and progress has been far too slow. We’ll continue pressing for the improvements the community deserves along Wennington Road.”
Siddique added:
“While we are pleased to see the damaged sign has now been repaired, any further measures that will help improve compliance and resident safety are a positive.”
The Rainham Labour Action Team have made road safety an election priority in response to concerns raised by residents who feel unheard, from repeated collisions at the junction of Berwick Pond Road and Upminster Road North, irresponsible parking near Brady School, and speeding along Parsonage Road.
In support of this, Beam Park Councillor Trevor Mckeever raised the issue at the Council meeting on 21st January, to ask the administration to support a 20mph limit on the entirety of Wennington Road.
The Rainham and Wennington Labour team will be reacting to the response from Havering Council, as we speak to more residents regarding this issue. We will always put residents’ concerns at the forefront of our actions, and will provide an update to the community in due course.

Let’s hope they succeed.
There are a number of residential streets in my area of Havering – including my own – that desperately need a 20mph limit. At present, many drivers break the 30mph limit and bomb down them at 40mph+. They may not stick to the 20mph limit, but if it keeps them to 35mph rather than 45mph, them that’s a plus.
20mph is more than enough in the streets around the Mawney Arms pub.
