Kaleidoscope is currently the only dedicated LGBTQ+ space in Havering, providing monthly community meetups for locals aged 17-24, since it was established in 2022. The success of Kaleidoscope has now led to a new 5-month project aimed at providing a social and creative space for those aged 25+, funded by Havering Council’s ‘Community Chest’. The outcome of this project will be a series of community-designed LGBTQ+ Pride stickers which will be displayed in shop windows around Romford to foster a more welcoming atmosphere for a marginalised community.

There will be monthly meetups leading up to the production of the stickers which Kaleidoscope hopes will help bolster the community spirit for this initiative. Alongside the stickers, FAQ pamphlets will be produced for local businesses. These will provide information on topics such as reporting hate crimes and reducing micro-aggressions etc., with the aim to promote a more supportive environment for LGBTQ+ community in the local area.

Starting with a karaoke session on the 30th January 2026, each meet-up will provide an opportunity for local LGBTQ+ adults and allies to socialise with peers.

Each monthly meet-up will consist of:

–              Karaoke on Friday 30 January, 6pm – 8pm – led by Drag artist Chamonix Aspen, queer-led karaoke will finally come to Romford!

–              Creative Expression on Thursday 26 February, 6pm – 8pm – a workshop inviting participants to express their emotions through creativity, focusing on mental well-being.

–              Climbing session at Romford Rock and Boulder on Thursday 26 March, 6pm – 8pm – an opportunity to try bouldering, open to all abilities.

–              History vision workshop on Thursday 23 April, 6pm – 8pm – a creative session exploring LGBTQ+ history and visions for the Pride stickers that will be placed across Romford

–              Stickers and Pamphlet design on Thursday 21 May, 6pm – 8pm – the final monthly session will focus on designing the Pride stickers and FAQ pamphlet for local businesses.

After the final meet-up, the stickers and pamphlets will be distributed to local businesses around Havering. Every session is free to join!

Currently, there are no dedicated LGBTQ+ events for adults in Havering. Recent national news, such as the Supreme Court ruling on the definition of woman have shown that there is a need for solidarity for an often-maligned community. Many LGBTQ+ adults report low mental well-being, especially transgender people who are facing a lot of negative attention by the media. Creating stickers for local businesses and spreading awareness through pamphlets may seem like small actions, but they have the potential to have a big impact.

Kaleidoscope welcomes people of all races, faiths, abilities, sexualities, and genders, including straight and cisgender allies. Gender equality and intersectional inclusivity are at the core of everything they do.
