LATEST: Man in His 50s Arrested In Harold Hill After Claiming To Possess Explosives.
A man in his 50s was arrested on Thursday, 15 January in Redcar Road, Harold Hill, after claiming to be in possession of explosives inside his home. Specialist officers and negotiators attended the scene, working alongside the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, and the man was taken into custody around 17.40. While no viable devices were found, police continue their enquiries, and the incident is not being treated as terror-related.
A Met spokesperson told the Havering Daily:
“On Thursday, 15 January at 14:22 police were called following concern for the welfare of a man in Redcar Road, Romford.
“Specialist officers and negotiators attended the scene and engaged with the man in his 50s, who was inside a residential property and claiming to be in possession of explosives.
“The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade also attended.”
“At around 17.40hrs the man exited the property and was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and making/possessing items to create explosives. He has been taken into custody where he remains.
“While a search of the property continues, no viable devices have been found and we are satisfied there is no immediate threat to the public. Enquiries continue.
“The incident is not being treated as terror-related.”
Local residents reported seeing a heavy emergency service presence in the area, with nearby roads cordoned off as police dealt with the incident. Eyewitnesses described armed officers escorting the man from the property to a police van.
The Met has reassured the public that there is no immediate threat, and searches of the property are ongoing to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
