On Saturday, the Havering Daily popped into Varleys, a brand new Irish deli that has just opened on Station Road in Upminster, and what a welcome it received. Opening day was buzzing, with queues out the door and locals eager to see what all the excitement was about.

Varleys is owned by Upminster husband and wife team Alex and Alice, and from the moment you walk in it is clear this is something special. The deli offers a brilliant range of hot and cold food, with options to eat in or take away, and there really is something for everyone, including plenty of choices for vegans.

One thing that has already won over the community is that Varleys is proudly dog friendly. Owners can bring their much loved dogs along, settle in with a coffee and cake, or enjoy a warm lunch on a cold winter’s day. It has that welcoming, neighbourhood feel that instantly makes you want to stay a little longer.

Alex and Alice are passionate about quality. They pride themselves on serving excellent coffee, nutritious food developed with the support of a nutritionist, and delivering what they call a top class Irish deli experience. This is not just another takeaway or café on the high street. As their slogan says, this really is “Good Food On the Go.”

Saturday saw a full house, with customers eager to sample the menu and soak up the friendly atmosphere. From the food to the service, it was clear that Varleys has already struck a chord with the community.

If you have not been yet, this is one you need to try, especially for the coffee. Varleys can be found on Station Road in Upminster, and judging by its opening day, it is already becoming a new local favourite.
