“We Did It! Havering Wins First Place at London’s New Year’s Day Parade”
Havering has done it. Our borough has been crowned first place winner at this year’s London New Year’s Day Parade, beating every other London borough in the capital’s biggest and most celebrated annual event.

Led by our Mayor, Councillor Sue Ospreay, and Deputy Mayor Councillor Barry Mugglestone, Havering’s spectacular float came first in the 40th anniversary parade, a truly incredible achievement and one that the entire borough can be proud of.
The winning float, themed ‘Once Upon a Pantomime’, was a riot of colour, creativity and community spirit. It was the brainchild of Mayor Sue and her team, who brought together the brilliant Lightnin Drama Group, the Thunder Drama Group and members of the MCA Trust to create something truly magical.

In a moment that captured hearts along the route, Mayor Sue chose not to remain with the other Mayors. Instead, she proudly walked alongside the Havering float dressed as Dick Whittington, the first Mayor of London, leading from the front and embodying the spirit of the borough she represents.

Yesterday, at a special ceremony in London, it was officially announced that the winners of the 40th London New Year’s Day Parade were the London Borough of Havering. The news was met with huge pride across the borough, marking a historic victory that has not been achieved for many years.
Havering did not just win, it dominated. The borough secured over one hundred more votes than any other London borough, a clear reflection of the impact, creativity and heart behind the performance.

This victory belongs to everyone who made it happen. From the children who performed with joy and confidence, to the organisers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, to every volunteer who braved the cold conditions on New Year’s Day. Every single effort was worth it.
A huge thank you is also owed to the Lord Mayor of London, Dame Susan Langley DBE, and to everyone who supported Havering’s journey to the top.
This was more than a parade entry. It was a celebration of community, creativity and pride in our borough.
Havering has come first. And we could not be prouder!
