Dagenham and Rainham MP Steps In To Protect Rainham Village’s Environment.
Margaret Mullane the Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham, has taken action in response to concerning reports of rat infestations in and around a watercourse in the heart of Rainham village.
Fay Hough and Sue Watson, members of the Rainham and Wennington Labour Action Team made the reports following inspections of the areas of land and stream near to Rainham station and to the rear of the Phoenix pub. Part of this land is attached to the new housing development and has been set aside by the developer to become an amenity space when the work is completed.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “I have made sure urgent calls to deal with the problem have been made to Persimmon Homes, the developer, Havering Council and Network Rail.
I am concerned that unless action is taken, the nearby St Helens Court blocks of flats could be affected. So I want to see a concerted effort by all the responsible landowners to ensure that the rat infestation is quickly controlled.”
She added: “I have also reported to Persimmon that their temporary fencing at the boundary of the development around the watercourse is not secure and is in danger of collapse.
As well as this, the Council should attend to street lighting in the village, with several lamps not working and one column in Library Crescent on the new housing development, has been damaged.
Rainham village is such a special place of real heritage value that deserves to be well looked after and a place to be rightly proud of. I thank Fay and Sue and call on the organisations to do their work to restore that pride and protect residents from harm.”
