Youth Unity to Transform Unused ATIK Nightclub Space into New Youth Hub
Youth Unity has announced an exciting new project that will see an unused section of ATIK Nightclub in Romford turned into a dedicated youth and community space.
Local developers Urban Sketch have granted Youth Unity access to the enclosed side area of the building for the next four years, with the option to stay longer depending on redevelopment plans. The new zone will sit alongside The HUB — the existing youth facility in the arches that Youth Unity already operates as a safe space for young people.
The HUB currently provides basics such as hot drinks and somewhere to warm food, but its size limits what can be offered. The additional ATIK space will allow Youth Unity to expand its work dramatically, with outdoor activities, sport, creative projects and more opportunities for young people to engage in positive, supported sessions.
Recently, with the help of the Community Payback Team, the new site was cleared and cleaned, marking the first step in bringing the space to life.
Youth Unity is now calling on local businesses and community partners to help make the project a reality by:
• Building a simple shelter
• Donating or sponsoring equipment
• Contributing materials or labour
• Supporting creative installations
Funding is also needed to provide staff supervision during sessions.
A Youth Unity spokesperson said:
“This project is about listening to young people. They don’t want to be pushed away; they want places that welcome them.”
