Anti-knife crime campaigner Courtney Barrett has hit out at those in authority, saying Londoners are being left at risk as knife crime continues to spiral across the capital with yet another weekend of violence.

Courtney told The Havering Daily, “Knife crime is being ignored by the Mayor of London so this is now the norm for London.”

He added, “Londoners are being failed due to his negligence in my opinion. Everybody seems to know how bad violent crime has become in London, apart from the Commissioner of Police and Crime who is also our London Mayor, Sadiq Khan.”

His frustration comes as London saw another series of serious incidents over the last week. In Havering alone, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in Elm Park and two teenagers were mugged at knifepoint in the middle of a busy Hornchurch high street during the Friday rush hour.

Courtney said, “Londoners are being failed on knife crime.”

Courtney Barrett is known nationwide for his work with families whose children have been murdered or seriously injured because of knife violence. He travels the country installing Daniel Baird bleed kits in public places to give victims a chance of survival while emergency services are en route. He also works closely with thousands of bereaved family members who are now campaigning for change.

Just weeks ago, Courtney travelled to Sheffield to work alongside the family of 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose, who was fatally stabbed inside his school earlier this year. Together, they installed a full team of Daniel Baird bleed kits across the city in Harvey’s memory.

Courtney said, “I work with a large list of families right across England who have lost their children to knife crime. I have campaigned outside City Hall, Number 10 and Westminster, yet no one acknowledges the work we do or the work these families are doing to stop knife crime.”

As knife violence continues to devastate families and communities across London, he says silence from those in leadership cannot continue.

Courtney told The Havering Daily, “We are being failed.”
