Thieves Banned After Plain Clothes Police Officers Catch Shoplifters in Elm Park.
In response to concerns raised by local retailers in Elm Park about criminals targeting their stores, local officers responded by patrolling in plain clothes and working directly with store detectives to disrupt and deter shoplifting in the area.
Uniformed officers also carried out targeted patrols, focusing on specific locations at key times, acting as a visible deterrent and providing reassurance to the local community.
Sergeant Matt Atkin from Elm Park ward said: “We have been working closely with a number of retailers in Elm Park and will continue our patrols to disrupt and deter criminal activity.”
This enhanced focus in Elm Park led to a series of interventions at retail businesses resulting in a man being arrested and subsequently charged for 3 shoplifting offences. He has also been issued with a Community Protection Warning preventing him from entering the Elm Park area. A woman was also issued a Community Resolution for shoplifting.
Sergeant Atkin added “We are also using Anti Social Behaviour legislation to ban offenders from the area. I would encourage anyone to report crime via our the Met website or call 101, always dial 999 in an emergency. If anyone would like to speak with a member of the team, do get in touch online via Met Engage.”
Havering police officers have been tackling shoplifting through plain clothes officers. Extensive work has been undertaken across Rainham and Elm Park to battle shoplifting.
