The Mercury Shopping Centre has launched its annual Christmas charity drive, The Giving Tree, inviting shoppers to donate new, unopened gifts for families supported by Havering Women’s Aid Refuge.

Donations can be made using the charity’s “dream list”, which includes household goods, gifts, clothing, confectionery and toys. These items will be placed into personalised gift boxes to help bring comfort, dignity and a sense of normality to families at Christmas.

For the first time, The Mercury is also supporting the King George & Queen’s Hospital Charity with its annual Christmas appeal. The charity provides a gift to every child, young people and all patients spending Christmas Day in hospital, bringing festive cheer to those who need it most. Shoppers are encouraged to pick up an extra gift or two if they can to support this wonderful cause.

Every family has the right to feel safe at Christmas — and to feel loved too.

The centre aims to create a personalised gift box for every family living in the Havering Women’s Aid Refuge before 20th December, ensuring they experience a little Christmas comfort while staying away from home.

Women’s Aid are hoping for gifts such as luxury toiletries, reusable water bottles, travel mugs, scares, gloves, hats, scented candles, diffusers, bath gift sets, plush blankets, skincare gift packs, stationary sets, books, craft kits, puzzle books, jewellery bundles and a selection of toys.

The hospital is hoping for donations of children’s toys and gifts for all ages and toiletries.

How to donate:
Gifts can be dropped off at:
