Sadiq Khan Forced into Apology over Gallows Corner Chaos.
Sadiq Khan has been forced to apologise over the never-ending Gallows Corner delays as fury grows among residents and businesses who say they have been pushed to breaking point.
On the 20th November at Mayor’s Question Time, Sadiq Khan was asked by Keith Prince AM, Reform UK Assembly Member for Havering and Redbridge, whether consideration had been given to a compensation scheme for businesses at Gallows Corner, after TfL announced further delays to the refurbishment of the flyover earlier this month.
In response to the question, Sadiq Khan thanked Assembly Member Prince for his “assiduous lobbying on this really important issue”. The Mayor of London went on to say that he was “sorry for the continued disruption caused by the delays”.
The roundabout and flyover at Gallows Corner were set to re-open in September, but it is now expected to open in Spring 2026, leaving residents and traders facing years of uncertainty.
Keith Prince who is also a Councillor in Havering, said in the exchange with the Mayor that “what’s being planned now, will ruin businesses Christmas and New Year which is the most important time that they have”.
Keith Prince told the Havering Daily: “I appreciate that the Mayor has now apologised for the farcical situation at Gallows Corner, however residents deserve clarity which neither TfL or Essex and Suffolk Water is providing them.
I am disappointed that he is not considering a compensation scheme which is desperately needed for small businesses to stay afloat during this period.
I will continue to lobby hard for a compensation scheme either from TfL or Essex and Suffolk Water for local businesses who are the innocent party in this mess”.

Yes, the contractors doing the work are taking longer than expected, but at least Khan has actually got the flyover work started – unlike his incompetent predecessor….
