Havering’s Much-Loved Santa’s Grotto Returns to The Mercury Shopping Centre
The Mercury Shopping Centre in Romford has officially reopened its much-loved Santa’s Grotto, marking the start of the festive season for families across Havering.
The grand reopening took place on Wednesday, 11 November, with celebrations featuring cast members from Brookside Theatre’s production of Nativity The Musical and excited shoppers joining together to open the festivities.
Now in its 25th year, The Mercury’s Santa’s Grotto is the longest-running grotto in Havering, continuing to spread Christmas cheer to generations of local families.
The event was officially opened by the grotto’s beloved Nutcracker, Ian Courtier, who said:
“The grotto at The Mercury is one of the friendliest in town. We also welcome our animal friends – it’s certainly inclusive. Young and old are all welcome.”
Open daily until Christmas Eve, the grotto requires no prior booking, allowing families to drop in and experience the magic at their convenience. Every Wednesday, dog owners are invited to bring their pets for a special “Santa Paws” visit with Santa.
New for 2025, visitors can experience the magic of Christmas like never before with an enchanted elevator ride to the North Pole, where families can meet Santa and capture lasting memories together.
Gift packages start from £10, which include the elevator ride, a visit with Santa, a photo, and a present. A gift-only option is available for £5.
So, step inside, believe in the magic, and make Christmas unforgettable at The Mercury Shopping Centre – Havering’s festive destination!
