VIDEO: Stunning Poppy Waterfall Unveiled Outside The Town Hall In Romford.
A beautiful tribute to those who gave their lives in war has been unveiled at Havering Town Hall — a handmade ‘poppy waterfall’ created entirely by local residents.
Yesterday (3 November), Havering’s Mayor, Councillor Sue Ospreay, unveiled the striking display, which cascades from the Mayor’s office window down to the ground floor outside the Town Hall.
The ‘poppy waterfall’ features thousands of crocheted poppies, lovingly made by members of the community over the past six weeks. The talented group — Rachel Bracken, Natasha Summers, Pauline Dordoy, Claire Parsons, Lauren Sutton and Marion Green — dedicated their time and creativity to crafting each poppy for the tribute.
The idea came directly from Mayor Ospreay, who wanted to create a visual symbol of remembrance that reflected the spirit and togetherness of Havering’s residents.
“This wonderful creation shows just how much our community cares about honouring those who served and sacrificed,” said the Mayor. “Each poppy represents gratitude, remembrance, and unity.”
The ladies who made the display proudly stood beside their finished masterpiece as it was unveiled, joined by local councillors who came to admire the touching tribute ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
The cascading sea of red has already drawn admiration from passers-by, serving as a powerful reminder of the lives lost in conflict — and the strength of community that endures in Havering today.
