‘Enough is Enough’: As Britain Bleeds, Who Is Listening?

Last week outside City Hall, anti-knife crime campaigners and bereaved parents gathered to speak about the horrors of knife crime — and the silence that follows.

They spoke of their loss, of the bleed kit donations that have saved lives, and of the desperate struggle to be heard. Their message was clear: the government must act before more lives are lost. But just days later, the country has witnessed two appalling knife sprees that prove nothing is changing.

In Uxbridge, you cannot even walk your dog in peace anymore. A 49-year-old man was brutally killed on 27 October in Midhurst Gardens after a triple stabbing that left two others injured — a 45-year-old man, who remains in hospital with life-changing injuries, and a 14-year-old boy.

A 22-year-old Afghan national, Safi Dawood, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon. Police have confirmed he came to the UK illegally in 2020 and was granted asylum in 2022. Detectives have ruled out terrorism but launched a full-scale murder investigation.

Just days later, the UK was shaken again. In Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, a mass stabbing on a packed train left ten people injured, nine critically. Witnesses described passengers hiding in toilets as chaos broke out onboard the 6:25 pm service from Doncaster to King’s Cross. Two suspects were arrested, and counter-terrorism police are assisting in the investigation.

Three air ambulances, dozens of emergency responders, and multiple police units were deployed to scenes that could have been prevented if knife crime was truly being tackled.

But what now?

No one seems willing to face this epidemic head-on. Parents who have lost their children to knife crime have been begging for help — and instead are left to install bleed kits in their communities, hoping to save someone else’s life where their own child’s could not be saved.

The impact on our emergency services is devastating. Officers, paramedics, and firefighters are being pushed to their limits, responding to scenes of unimaginable violence week after week.

Where are those in authority now?

Knife crime is not just out of control, it’s being ignored. And every time another family lights a candle for a lost child, the silence from those in power grows louder.

You do realise that, according to official police figures, knife crime has fallen by 7% over the last 12 months, don’t you ?
It’s a problem, of course it is – like all crime – but to suggest it’s more ‘out of control’ now than it was a year ago is clearly wrong and could be used by certain political figures to push misinformation to suit their agendas.
