Weekly Football Highlights: Key Match Results

Hi, I’m Jasper. I am in Dorset to visit my family, so I couldn’t attend the Hornchurch FC match. However, I did go to see Yeovil Town FC, who are in the National League. Yeovil drew 1-1 against Carlisle United, who brought 459 away fans!

Hornchurch 2 – 1 Hampton & Richmond
Another victory at home for the Urchins, as they move 2 points ahead of Weston-Super-Mare at the top of the National League South table.
Friday 24th October
Leeds United 2 – 1 West Ham United
Two extremely early goals for Leeds, as West Ham continue to struggle to defend from set pieces. An early Lucas Paqueta goal was disallowed.
Fernandes (West Ham) got subbed on, scored, but it was too late.
Saturday 25th October
Chelsea 1 – 2 Sunderland
A Late winner for the Black Cats seals an impressive victory. It kind of sounds like their rivals’ match read below to find out.
Newcastle United 2 – 1 Fulham
Newcastle win against Fulham at St James’ Park. Jacob Murphy gave Newcastle the lead before a scrappy goal for Lukic drew Fulham level. But…hold on, let me spell it right…Bruno Guimaraes scored his third this season to seal a late win.
Manchester United 4 – 2 Brighton & Hove Albion
Man United, take a bow (some teams CAN beat Brighton). Cunha got his first goal, which he described as “a dream” in a similar way to Mbeumo, who scored two and put the nail in the coffin to seal a victory. Also – did I mention Danny Welbeck’s free kick!
Brentford 3 – 2 Liverpool
Brentford score AGAIN from long throws, while Liverpool lose AGAIN in the Premier League, despite a convincing UCL win in midweek!
Sunday 26th October
AFC Bournemouth 2 – 0 Nottingham Forest
Sean Dyche (Nottingham Forest) had his Premier League debut as head coach.
Bournemouth forward Kroupi Jr scores to disappoint him, despite a Europa League win in midweek. Bournemouth continues their good start to the season.
Arsenal 1 – 0 Crystal Palace
Arsenal’s summer signing, Eze, scores against his former club just before half-time as they stay top of the league.
Aston Villa 1 – 0 Manchester City
Another not-so-exciting match ends 1-0 due to a goal from Matty Cash for Aston Villa. Unfortunate for City.
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 – 3 Burnley
A late goal for Burnley from Lyle Foster, and 2 goals from teammate Zian Flemming, mean Wolves stay bottom of the league, just behind West Ham.
Everton 0 – 3 Tottenham Hotspur
Van de Ven gets 2 goals – both from set pieces – which would make their North London rivals proud. I said before the game, “don’t sleep on Everton,” as they have had some great results, not today, though.
Another exciting week. The United Strand (a Manchester United fan who is not cutting his hair until United win 5 games in a row) is now one step closer to the barbers.
