“Candles for Agne: Heartfelt Vigil in Romford as Community Mourns Lost Mother”
On Sunday 26 October, a special vigil was held outside Romford Town Hall in memory of Agne Druskienea, a 40-year-old mother who was tragically killed in her Hornchurch home on Cranham Road last weekend.
The event was organised by long-time campaigner Maxine Kemp, a dedicated advocate against violence toward women and girls. Members of the community gathered, candles in hand, and a Lithuanian flag was draped in her honour.
Her husband, Augustinas Druskis, aged 43 of Cranham Road, has since been charged with her murder.
The vigil featured powerful statements from Maxine and from fellow campaigner Charlotte, calling for changes in the law to better protect women from violence. The community held a minute’s silence to remember all the Agne and all the women who have lost their lives to violence.
Local councillors representing both the Conservative and Labour parties joined the gathering to pay their respects. Candles, flowers and the Lithuanian flag were placed beside Agne’s photograph outside the Town Hall as a lasting tribute. In attendance also was Sue Hedges from the Ricky Hayden Memorial, alongside members of Maxine’s group, Solestepper and our local police officer’s who came to pay their respects.
It was a deeply moving moment for the community, uniting in grief and resolve over a life lost to domestic violence.
