Havering Police officers, led by South Havering Inspector Mark Connolly, are taking the fight against tool theft nationwide, with remarkable success.

Inspector Connolly has supported numerous police forces across the UK, earning recognition as a nationally respected officer for his dedication and results in tackling tool crime. Over the summer, he and his team targeted boot sales and recovered half a million pounds’ worth of stolen tools. Back in Havering, officers have run two highly successful tool-marking events outside B&Q, helping hundreds of tradespeople protect their livelihoods.

Now Havering officers have visited Brands Hatch to engage with visitors to help them keep their tools and motorbikes safe.

Inspector Mark Connolly told the Havering Daily:
“Officers from the MPS and Bexley attended Brands Hatch on the weekend to support the MPS drive against tool theft and motorcycle theft. Officers joined Datatag who are passionate about driving home the importance of forensic property marking. The event was a large-scale event with teams from across the UK. The MPS is proud to attend these events and support our partners with forensic marking. If you own a motorcycle and you work as a mechanic, the importance of protecting your tools and equipment cannot be overstated.”

This Brands Hatch event is another step in Havering Police’s ongoing campaign to tackle tool theft, making equipment traceable and deterring thieves. By combining public awareness, forensic marking, and proactive policing, the team is ensuring stolen tools are returned and offenders are caught.

With leaders like Inspector Connolly at the helm, Havering is setting a national standard for policing tool crime, showing how proactive, community-focused efforts can make a tangible difference.
