Proposals for the redevelopment of the former Debenhams site at Swan Walk and Market Place, in Romford have been drafted and will be shown to residents over the weekend at a public consultation. The prominent town centre location lies within the Romford Conservation Area and forms part of the council’s broader regeneration objectives for the area.

The Havering Daily has been informed that following several years of preparatory work, the site is now ready for a comprehensive regeneration scheme.

A spokesperson for the development told the Havering Daily: “Prior to submitting a planning application—which has already been introduced to Havering Council’s Planning Department—we are undertaking a careful and inclusive consultation process. This will include engagement with elected councillors, local businesses, and residents to ensure that local views and priorities are considered as part of the development process.”

The proposed scheme will deliver:

 *   A range of high-quality family homes.
 *   A new hotel overlooking Romford Market Place.
 *   A landscaped communal courtyard and new public realm to enhance connectivity and social interaction.

“The development has been designed to complement the surrounding neighbourhood, enhance local character, and contribute positively to Romford’s ongoing town centre regeneration. It represents an opportunity to bring new life to a key site—supporting sustainable growth, improving public spaces, and strengthening Romford’s position as a vibrant and welcoming town centre.”

Residents will have the chance to have their say on this project.
The spokesperson added:
“We welcome your feedback on the proposals. Over the coming weeks, there will be several opportunities to share your views.”
