Remembering PC Keith Blakelock – 40 Years On
Monday 6 October marked forty years since the tragic death of PC Keith Blakelock, a Metropolitan Police officer who lost his life while serving his community during the Broadwater Farm riots in Tottenham on 6 October 1985.
PC Blakelock, who was 40 years old and a father of three, was protecting firefighters as they tackled blazes on the estate when he was brutally attacked and killed in the line of duty. His death shocked the nation and remains one of the darkest days in British policing history.
He was described by colleagues as a dedicated officer, a family man, and someone who simply wanted to keep others safe. His courage, professionalism, and sacrifice are still remembered by police officers across the country today.
Forty years may have passed, but the memory of PC Keith Blakelock endures. His name stands as a reminder of the risks faced daily by officers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect the public.
As we remember him we also think of his family, friends, and former colleagues who continue to carry the weight of his loss. PC Blakelock will never be forgotten.

Its a shame that Keith and Yvonne Fletcher another officer killed in the line of duty have not been on the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square. Would be a fitting tribute to both officers
Entirely agree! Also to that poor young soldier who got butchered in South London.
